If you have never been to Rio, I highly recommend that you go. Remember, when we have winter, they have summer. Check out this photo

For some people they were just words and images. For Mr. Lasn, they were tools to begin remodeling the “mental environment,” to create a new “meme,” the term coined by the evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins for a kind of transcendent cultural message.

“There’s a number of ways to wage a meme war,” Mr. Lasn, whose name is pronounced KAL-luh LAS-en, said in an interview. “I believe that one of the most powerful things of all is aesthetics.”

Mr. Lasn, who helped found Adbusters in 1989, had spent much of his career skewering corporate America, creating “subvertising” campaigns like “Joe Chemo,” which deftly mocked the Joe Camel cigarette ads of the 1990s.

But the spread of the Occupy protests signals a substantial step up for the magazine and Mr. Lasn, who is 69. The protests, he hopes, will “somehow change the power balance and make the world into a much more grass-roots, bottom-up kind of a place rather than the top-down Wall Street mega-corporate-driven system we now have.”

Usher Gets ‘Emotional’ On David Guetta’s ‘Without You’

David Guetta recently told MTV News that the Usher collabo “Without You” is the “biggest record” on his just-released Nothing but the Beat. It’s a rather bold statement, considering his latest album also features Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, will.i.am, Akon, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Hudson, just to name a few. But Guetta has a soft spot for the cinematic team-up with Ush, which he says is equal parts sentimental and hands-in-the-air euphoric.

“It’s just totally emotional,” Guetta said. “Some of the record is a proper ballad, and then it goes to that crazy dance beat. It’s perfect for him, because he’s famous for his ballads. And he’s also now famous for those big club records that he comes with. He’s an amazing dancer, so I felt like he was the artist that I needed.”

Four Tops, Temptations, Tavares and The Crystals announce tour

Due to exceptional demand, legendary Motown artists The Four Tops and The Temptations return to the UK for 10 stunning shows in March 2012. They will be joined by two very special guests: kings of Seventies R & B disco Tavares and seminal sixties girl band The Crystals.

With Soul and R&B enjoying a dazzling comeback, this tour promises to get three or four generations together, shaking their hips and singing along to the timeless sound of some truly irresistible classics. A few titles? ‘Reach Out (I’ll be there)’ and ‘t’s All In The Game’ from the Four Tops; ‘My Girl’ and ‘Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone’ from The Temptations; ‘Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel’ and ‘More Than A Woman’ from Tavares and ‘Da Doo Ron Ron’ and ‘Then He Kissed Me’ from The Crystals. And these are likely to be just the encores after an endless string of unforgettable hits.

Twilight star scoops two awards

Twilight star Taylor Lautner has picked up two orange, blimp-shaped trophies at the 23rd annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
Lautner snared the favourite actor honour for his New Moon role as hunky werewolf Jacob Black as well as the inaugural cutest couple award with his Twilight co-star Kristin Stewart.
“I have to admit I have always dreamt of winning one of these orange blimps,” said Lautner.
The fan-favourite ceremony’s host, Paul Blart: Mall Cop actor-comedian Kevin James, kicked off the show by performing a hip-hop dance routine as Adam Sandler serenaded him from above while dressed as an angel and fountains of green slime spontaneously gushed on the first few rows of the audience.
Katy Perry, wearing a bright blue wig and skintight flowery dress, was blasted with slime when presenting the favourite movie actress trophy to Miley Cyrus. The I Kissed a Girl singer chased the Hannah Montana actress around the stage, but co-presenter Jonah Hill grabbed Perry before she could embrace the 17-year-old singer-actress with a slimy hug.
